Daily prayer for home use
During this time when many are practising ‘social distancing’, we can all come together for prayer. In Fosse Trinity we are suggesting that wherever we are at 10.00 am and/or 5.00 pm we can have a short time of prayer, knowing that others will be doing the same.
FOSSE TRINITY MORNING PRAYER
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Hear our voice, O Lord, according to your faithful love,
according to your judgement give us life.
The night has passed, and the day lies open before us;
let us pray with one heart and mind.
(Keep a few moments of quiet)
As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever. Amen.

Benedictus (The Song of Zechariah)
Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel,
who has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Saviour,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets God promised of old
to save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all that hate us,
To show mercy to our ancestors,
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
Free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
To give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of all their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.
Prayers
For peace
For the government, and other world leaders
For the local village communities
For the Church
For those who are ill and those who care for them
For the frail, elderly, isolated and lonely
For those who are bereaved
Lord’s Prayer
May God our Redeemer show us compassion and love. Amen.
FOSSE TRINITY EVENING PRAYER
O Lord, open our lips
and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
Our help is in the name of the Lord
who made heaven and earth.
That this evening may be holy, good and peaceful,
let us pray with one heart and mind.
(Keep a few moments of quiet)
As our evening prayer rises before you, O God,
so may your mercy come down upon us
to cleanse our hearts
and set us free to sing your praise
now and for ever. Amen.

Magnificat (The Song of Mary)
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour;
he has looked with favour on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed;
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his name.
He has mercy on those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
He has shown strength with his arm
and has scattered the proud in their conceit,
Casting down the mighty from their thrones
and lifting up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things
and sent the rich away empty.
He has come to the aid of his servant Israel,
to remember his promise of mercy,
The promise made to our ancestors,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

A Prayer for use during the Coronavirus pandemic Loving God, We pray for all those who are suffering because of the coronavirus; may they know your healing power. When we are afraid for ourselves and our loved ones, give us your strength and courage. When we feel alone and isolated, reassure us with a sense of your presence. Give wisdom to those in authority and may our community work together for the good of all. We give thanks for those who care for others and ask you to bless them in all they do. We ask this in the name of Jesus, healer and physician. Amen FURTHER PRAYER RESOURCES For those who like something structured we can join many throughout the Church of England using one of the forms here. Using a tablet or smart phone (or a laptop or desktop computer) there are special prayers and readings for each day already set out. You need nothing else–it is all there. Early on there is Morning Prayer, later either Evening or Night Prayer. Prayer during the Day can also be used at any time and is shorter. If you don’t have a Bible to hand you can find one online here. In the left-hand box type in a reference and click ‘Search’ You might try reading a few verses from Luke’s Gospel each day, to start. |
