Bells and Ringing
Ditcheat bells have been rung for church services for over 500 years, first with a single bell and then over period of 400 years bells were added until in 1921 the bells were recast and 8 bells hung in a new metal frame. The bells are acknowledged as being among the finest ring of eight bells in the land. Further information on the history of our bells can be viewed at https://www.ditcheat.life/ditcheat-bells-are-100-years-old
In order to ring all the bells for church services we need eight ringers, this is not always possible and we often ring only six. We also ring at East Pennard and Pylle churches
We practice on Wednesday evenings at Ditcheat from 7:30pm till 9:00pm, as well as ensuring the tradition continues, bell ringing is a social activity. We will always welcome returning ringers or teach people wanting join the band, contact the Tower Captains and arrange to come to a practice and meet us.
